Candidate Questionnaire Responses
1. How would your election to the ASAM Board of Directors benefit ASAM and the field of addiction medicine?
It is my wide breadth of experience as well as my dedication to ASAM over many years, working in various leadership roles that I bring to the role of Vice President.
I have a very broad scope of experience, working to pioneer new types of treatments and in a variety of treatment settings, giving me a unique perspective on the field of addiction medicine and where the needs of the specialty are heading. My DFSAM designation is a reflection of the contributions I have made. I have served ASAM as a chapter president, board member and regional director, and served on a number of committees. I believe my dedication, experience and orientation toward service add up to making me an excellent member of the leadership team.
2. Candidate Statement
I joined the Â鶹ÊÓƵ (ASAM) early in my Addiction Medicine career, finding ASAM to be a home for professional fellowship, guidance and solidarity at a time when the Addiction Medicine specialty was still fledgling. Over the years I became an active leader within ASAM, first in my home state of New Hampshire and then within the national organization. Now much further advanced in my career, I have over years of experience gained a long view of advances in addiction policy and treatment. ASAM has been a key driver in these advances. Yet there is still much more to do. I see service on the board as Vice President as an opportunity to give back to an organization that has done so much for me personally as well as to the field of addiction medicine, and a chance to help move the organization toward its future goals.
