Candidate Questionnaire Responses
1. How would your election to the ASAM Board of Directors benefit ASAM and the field of addiction medicine?
My election to the ASAM Board of Directors would bring a combination of clinical, executive, and organizational leadership experience to advancing ASAM’s mission. As an addiction physician and healthcare executive, I understand both the challenges facing clinicians and the strategic opportunities before our field. I would work to strengthen ASAM’s financial and organizational sustainability, expand access to evidence-based addiction treatment, support the addiction medicine workforce, and ensure physicians remain influential in shaping policy and standards of care. Above all, I would bring a collaborative, pragmatic approach focused on translating ASAM’s expertise into meaningful improvements for patients and communities.
2. Candidate Statement
Addiction medicine has reached an important moment. Our field has grown tremendously in its scientific foundation, clinical capabilities, and recognition within medicine, yet significant gaps remain in access to evidence-based treatment, workforce development, stigma, and the translation of best practices into everyday clinical care.
I am seeking election to the ASAM Board of Directors because I believe ASAM has both the opportunity and the responsibility to lead the next phase of that progress.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving addiction medicine from multiple perspectives—as a practicing physician, health system executive, state chapter leader, ASAM Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair, and member of the Executive Council. These experiences have taught me that meaningful progress requires more than identifying what excellent care should look like. We must create systems that allow clinicians to actually deliver it.
My leadership philosophy is grounded in service, accountability, collaboration, and a willingness to address difficult problems directly. If elected, I will work to strengthen ASAM as both a professional home for our members and the leading clinical voice for addiction medicine. I will advocate for evidence-based treatment, a stronger and more diverse addiction medicine workforce, responsible organizational stewardship, and practical resources that help clinicians improve the care they provide every day.
It would be an honor to continue serving ASAM and to help ensure that our organization remains clinically rigorous, financially strong, forward-looking, and unwavering in its commitment to patients and families affected by addiction.
