Vania P. Rudolf, MD, MPH, FAAFP, DFASAM is a board-certified family and addiction medicine physician, health policy advocate, physician leader, and internationally recognized expert in addiction medicine. She is committed to strengthening addiction care through compassionate, evidence-based, person-centered approaches that integrate clinical excellence, health equity, medical education, systems innovation, and gender-responsive treatment. She serves as Immediate Past President of the Washington Society of Addiction Medicine (WSAM) and Chair of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) Women and Addiction Interest Group. Through collaborative leadership, advocacy, and clinical service, Dr. Rudolf expands access to evidence-based care, builds bridges across disciplines and communities, fosters global partnerships, and improves outcomes for women, individuals, and families affected by addiction.

1. How would your election to the ASAM Board of Directors benefit ASAM and the field of addiction medicine?
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stands at a pivotal moment as addiction medicine confronts persistent stigma, inequities in treatment access, workforce challenges, and an evolving policy landscape. These challenges also present opportunities for ASAM to strengthen care integration, advance evidence-based advocacy, expand treatment access, and further establish itself as the global leader in addiction medicine.
If elected, I would bring a collaborative leadership approach grounded in the belief that addiction medicine is an interconnected ecosystem of clinicians, researchers, policymakers, recovery advocates, and communities working toward a common standard of excellence. Throughout my career, I have built partnerships across disciplines, professional organizations, government agencies, and community stakeholders to advance patient-centered care and health equity.
I am particularly committed to advancing ASAM's global leadership through the development and dissemination of internationally adaptable standards of care, including broader application of the ASAM Criteria, clinical guidelines, and educational frameworks. By fostering international partnerships and bidirectional knowledge exchange, ASAM can help elevate evidence-based addiction treatment worldwide while promoting gender-responsive care, health equity, and improved outcomes for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.
2. Candidate Statement
I am honored to be a candidate for the ASAM Board of Directors. As a board-certified family and addiction medicine physician, I have dedicated my career to advancing evidence-based addiction treatment, reducing barriers to care, and building collaborative partnerships that improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use disorder and addiction.
My service to ASAM and the broader addiction medicine community includes serving as Immediate Past President of the Washington Society of Addiction Medicine (WSAM), Past Chair of ASAM's Women and Addiction Group, and Chair of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) Women and Addiction Interest Group. Through these leadership roles, I have advanced clinical education, advocacy, workforce development, member engagement, and strategic partnerships across local, national, and international organizations. My work has included leading national Women and Addiction Summits, supporting policy initiatives that expand treatment access, advancing methadone modernization efforts, and helping guide the planning of the 2027 ISAM Global Addiction Congress in Seattle.
A defining aspect of my leadership is the ability to unite clinicians, researchers, policymakers, recovery advocates, and communities around a shared vision of equitable, person-centered addiction care. I am particularly committed to strengthening collaboration, advancing health equity, and fostering global partnerships that support the dissemination of evidence-based standards, including the ASAM Criteria, clinical guidelines, and educational resources. If elected, I would bring experience in governance, strategic planning, advocacy, coalition building, and organizational leadership to help advance ASAM's mission and strengthen its impact both nationally and globally.
